John Landrum Cooper was born April 7, 1975 in Memphis, Tennessee and co-founded Skillet in 1996 with Ken Steorts. As the band's lead vocalist and bassist, he has steered Skillet to become one of the best-selling Christian rock acts of all time, with the album Comatose (2006) selling over two million copies. He is openly Christian and his wife Korey Cooper is also a band member. He hosts the podcast Monsters and Critics and is a vocal advocate for faith in the public square.
