David Platt

Biography

David Platt was born July 11, 1979 in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned his Ph.D. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and became lead pastor of The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama, at age 26 — one of the youngest lead pastors of a megachurch in the SBC. His 2010 book Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream became a New York Times bestseller and challenged American Christianity's comfortable relationship with materialism. He served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board from 2014 to 2018. He became lead pastor of McLean Bible Church in the Washington D.C. area and is also known for his Secret Church Bible study series, intense all-night events held globally to raise awareness for the persecuted church.
